Kigali, February 8th, 2006 (FH) - The decision by the appeals court of the UN International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) to uphold the genocide acquittal of former Rwandan minister of Transport André Ntagerura and former Prefet (Governor) of the South West Rwanda province of Cyangugu Emmanuel Bagambiki will “sadden” Rwandans, Attorney General Jean de Dieu Mucyo told Hirondelle News Agency on Wednesday.
“This is ridiculous, it is very sad”, said Mucyo. “There is very clear evidence that those two were among the leaders of the genocide and many people died as a direct result of their actions”, he added.
Judges of the appeals chamber of the ICTR on Wednesday supported the decision of a trial chamber rendered two years ago that Ntagerura and Bagambiki were not responsible for the killings of thousands of ethnic Tutsis in Cyangugu or else where in Rwanda during the genocide.
The acquittal also enraged the biggest genocide survivors group in Rwanda.
“We strongly denounce today’s acquittal by the ICTR of two hardcore criminals”, Benoit Kaboyi, the spokesperson of IBUKA said.
“We are not talking about low level genocidaires , Bagambiki and Ntagerura, participated in the killings at a national level. The two are even among that group of people that were extremists even before the genocide”, he added.

Barajiginywa!
Au lieu d'être scandalisés par les criminels rwandais qui ne sont pas poursuivis par la justice, certains Rwandais sont furieux parce que deux innocents ont été acquittés ! Bizarre vraiment.
Something's rotten in the kingdom of Gihanga.
